Legendary Fiordland has played an important part in the development of New Zealand's history. It's deep sheltered Fiords providing refuge from the fury of the roaring forties, an abundance of seals, fish and seabirds provided easily obtainable sustenance, more importantly though, it's also where beer first came to New Zealand, after 11,000 miles and 117 days floating around the globe. Tuck in!

The Queen Charlotte Scenic drive, between Picton and Havelock, is perhaps one of the most awesome tracks of coastal road in New Zealand. It's a narrow winding road but provides some spectacular views across the gleaming bush clad bays of Queen Charlotte, and Pelorus Sounds...

The sperm whale, named after the oils it contains in it's head, is the largest toothed mammal on the planet weighing up to 70 tons and spanning nearly 60 feet. The sperm whales located around Kaikoura are generally adolescent males.
If you haven't tried crayfish (New Zealand rock lobster) yet, you won't find a better place, there are roadside 'cray' shops that dot the highway, even if you aren't in to seafood, they provide some pretty cool kodak moments.
